COVID 19 Donations for India and Home Care Information

The devastation caused by the recent surge in COVID-19 cases in India is undoubtedly a humanitarian catastrophe. The news are heart-wrenching, but the reality is even worse: the lack of medicine, especially medical oxygen, hospital beds, and spaces for cremation and funerals leaves us speechless.

National and foreign media primarily report about the scarcity of medical resources in India’s cities; the dramatic socio-economic consequences of the lockdown for the poorer strata of the society in urban and rural areas only seem to play a minor role in media coverage these days, but it shall not be forgotten.

In this grim situation, solidarity is needed. For those of you who would like to help, we are herewith providing you with a list of organisations which claim to support those who have been particularly deprived in the current crisis, in both urban and rural areas, and who accept donations from foreign countries.

Mahila Housing Sewa Trust

A long-standing organization with significant expertise in helping poor households and creating awareness, particularly working with women. Covid-related work focuses on providing immediate necessities and creating public health-related awareness.

Khaana Chahiye Foundation, Mumbai

Created in response to the needs of poor working households during the government-ordered lockdown in 2020, the organization focuses on providing food aid to vulnerable sections of society in Mumbai, particularly working among homeless people and in slum areas.

Hemkunt Foundation, New Delhi

Established to help vulnerable families particularly in the Delhi/NCR area, this organization has provided food aid to farmers and workers during the pandemic, and has recently started to help in supplying oxygen to people who have fallen sick with Covid-19 but cannot otherwise access the required medical help.

Milaap, Breathe India Campaign, New Delhi and UP

Crowdfunding platform for help in providing medical oxygen to Covid-19 victims.

Goonj, Rahat Covid, Delhi, MP, Maharashtra

Anubhuti, Maharashtra

Crowdfunding call for a smaller organization particularly working with affected Adivasi communities in Maharashtra.

A larger philanthropy organization based in HongKong, the India section of which is engaged in aid and relief work for Covid-19 victims in India and food as well as financial support to vulnerable families.

Mazdoor Pahal, New Delhi

Fundraising call for a local initiative that originally was set up to help migrant workers staying back in the Delhi/NCR area during the 2020 lockdown, but has since diversified to provide general food aid to vulnerable families in the region.
